Lori "Sunny" Sundelius
My name is Lori Sundelius (the students may call me “Ms. Sunny”) and I am delighted to be the School Counselor at Jackson.  My primary focus is to help all students develop positive personal and academic skills and improve attendance.  This will help them to become more effective learners and will lead to increased academic success.

The School Counseling Program is for every student at Jackson and happens in a variety of ways.

Classroom Guidance
I teach a series of classroom guidance lessons to every student. The goal is to help empower students with the self-knowledge, coping, and life skills that will enable them to become motivated learners, effective communicators, good team members, creative problem solvers, and responsible citizens.

 Small Group Counseling
As part of the Counseling Program, I offer small students groups throughout the school year.  Small groups usually meet once per week. Small student groups are a way for your child to meet new friends, to gain more self-confidence, and to develop more positive coping skills in a safe and fun setting.  Teachers or parents can refer students to be part of a group

Individual Counseling
I also work with students individually for problems they might present, such as friendship problems, difficulty coming to school, anger management, or difficulties in the classroom, on the playground, or on the bus.  Referrals for students to meet with a school counselor can be made by classroom teachers, parents, or through student self-referrals.

Parent Support
Parents might call the School Counselor to talk about things like:
• "My child doesn't want to go to school in the mornings."
• "I'm concerned because my child keeps telling me that he doesn't have any friends. What might help?"
• "We recently had a death in the family, and I'm not sure how my child is coping."
• "My kids’ mother doesn’t live with them anymore.  Is there anyone Do you think they could talk with about it?
• "My child seems to get really frustrated doing his homework, and nothing I say seems to help."
