The Jackson Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBS) is the integration of all programs and interventions that are in place to support the positive behavior of each and every student.

Jackson has three expectations which are taught, modeled, and reinforced in every area of the school:
    Be Respectful
    Be Responsible
    Be Safe

The Positive Behavior Team
is a group of Jackson staff whose goal is to create a preventive, proactive and positive school-wide behavior plan.  This is a framework to help align the work of teaching academics with the work of teaching behavior.  We know that teaching behavior is teaching.  By developing a climate where everyone can learn, we are increasing the chances for all students to succeed.

Positive Behavior Team's Vision is that Jackson Elementary will be a safe, orderly learning environment where students, staff and families share high expectations for academic achievement and personal behavior. We envision a community in which everyone helps to create a mutually respectful, fair and caring environment where diversity is valued.

The goals of the PBS plan are to:

  • Decrease the number of office discipline referrals
  • Increase the amount of instruction time
  • Decrease administrative time spent on diciplinary issues
  • Efficiently use school resources
  • Create a behavior plan that is effective and sustainable
  • Increase the percieved level of school safety
Everyone proactively teaches, models and reinforces positive behaviors drawn out of the school wide expectations using universal language and similar lesson plans.  Student who are not mastering these behaviors will be given a higher level of support through interventions (just as we do with students struggling with academic subjects)

3-Tier system of positive behavioral support: A three-tier system lays out supports available for all students, supports for some students who may need extra behavioral interventions, and supports for the few students who may need extensive behavioral interventions.
