Small Group Counseling
As part of the Counseling Program, I offer many small students groups throughout the school year.  Small groups usually meet weekly.  Small student groups are a wonderful way for your child to meet new friends, gain more self-confidence, and develop positive coping skills in a safe and fun setting.  Teachers or parents can refer students to be part of a group.

Group Topics and objectives may include:


Friendship Group
1. Analyze how to make new friends
2. Identify important qualities of a friend
3. Understand common friendship problems
4. Learn how to manage conflicts
5. Develop a plan to improve friendships

New Student Group
1. Help student become comfortable in new school
2. Become acquainted with school behavior plan
3. Build new friendships
4. Meet important adults at school

School Success Group
1. Identify best place and time to study
2. Set short-term academic goals
3. Develop organizational skills
4. Learn processes to best utilize time
5. Learn strategies for studying

6. List goals and make a plan on how to accomplish them

Family Change Group

1. Express feelings about changing family
2. Understand that change in family structure is not child’s fault
3. Identify common problems associated with family change
4. Understand positive ways family and group members can help in adjustment

Anger Management Group
1. Identify factors that cause anger
2. Understand the consequences of irrational behavior when angry
3. Identify warning signs that you are getting angry
4. Identify different anger reduction techniques

Grief and Loss Group
1. Express feelings about loss
2. Learn stages of grief
3. Discuss happy memories
4. Identify ways to handle stress and loss

Social Skills and Behavior Group
1. Identify and understand positive behavior
2. Identify areas where they struggle
3. Set short and long term goals
4. Identify and practice positive ways to get attention
