Jackson Magnet School prepares students to be creative, constructive, compassionate thinkers. The
school’s core belief is that children come first. The school
demonstrates this by offering all children the opportunity for
acceleration to achieve their full
potential. Jackson's reading classes use Readers Workshop, a proven curriculum that emphasizes small, achievement-based reading groups.
Jackson's media center is the heart of the school, and is visited daily by all children for reading and research purposes. The school also offers accelerated math classes. The school-wide geography curriculum is unique to our building. Jackson encourages parent involvement and strives for a partnership between home, school and community. The school is able to nurture children as individuals and engage them in a learning process which emphasizes academic rigor and growth in a small, friendly close-knit community.
New to Jackson in the 06-07 school year was the Hmong Dual Language Program. Research supports teaching reading in a child's native language. Jackson will complete the transition to this program in the 08-09 school year, when a third grade class is added to the already existing pre-k, first, and second grades classes. Students in grades four through six receives a smaller portion of Hmong literacy.
